Artificial Lungs Installed In Navi Mumbai To Show Pollution Impact; Turns Black In 10 Days

No matter how much we ignore, all the infrastructure and industries contribute a lot of pollution. What is worse is that air pollution can prove detrimental to our health much more than we think. And while we might sideline the side effects of air pollution, it is not something we can turn a blind eye to. To spread awareness on air pollution, faux lungs were installed in Navi Mumbai’s Khargar & here’s what happened.

The Lungs Turned Dark Black From Chalk White In 7 Days

The lung billboard, which is a part of the campaign initiated by Waatavaran Foundation, turned black in just ten days. The lungs turned dark black from chalk white. The giant lungs were set up to raise awareness about the health impacts of increasing air pollution in the Kharghar- Taloja-Panvel.

The Colour Of The Lungs Changed Due To High Particulate Matter

Titled ‘The Billboard that Breathes’ the ‘artificial’ lungs was installed at Sector 7, Kharghar. The colour of the false lungs changed due to high particulate matter levels, which indicates the high levels of air pollution. These lungs started changing colour from the second day after installation.

A similar pair of lungs was installed at Bandra last year, which took 14 days to go black. Another one established in Delhi in 2018 just took six days to go black. The experiment comes as a red flag. It is high time to take strong measures to improve air quality in the area.
