Bengalureans know the hype around Mavalli Tiffin Rooms (MTR). It has been a go-to place for many foodies looking for comforting and delicious food in the city. Be it their crispy Masala Dosas or Bisi Bele Bath and Rava Idlis, people just can’t get enough of it. The restaurant, near Lalbagh Road, is considered a proud symbol of Bengaluru’s food culture.
Julian Hill, a member of the Australian House of Representatives, was recently in India on a diplomatic trip. During his visit, he stopped by Bengaluru’s MTR. He enjoyed its dosa and filter coffee and even interacted with the staff. Taking to Instagram, he announced that Bengaluru’s iconic MTR is franchising in Sydney. He also praised the restaurant and wrote that he had the “best dosa ever” there.

MTR’s Famous Rava Idli Will Soon Reach Sydney
This means that Mavalli Tiffin Rooms (MTR) may soon open an all-new outlet right in Sydney. The city is home to a large and rapidly growing Indian population. Many people living there crave authentic flavours from back home. Not just that, South Indian food like crispy dosas, soft idlis and aromatic filter coffee is also becoming increasingly popular among both Indians and locals in Australia.
Homesick students, professionals and families who miss traditional Bengaluru breakfasts in Sydney may soon have a new place to satisfy their cravings. According to Mavalli Tiffin Rooms’ Wikipedia, MTR is also the original inventor of the famous Rava Idli. During World War II, the restaurant found it difficult to make idlis because rice was not easily available. So, they experimented with semolina instead of rice and invented the now-famous breakfast dish.
The restaurant has already expanded its global footprint to Singapore, Kuala Lumpur, London, Bellevue, Mississauga and Dubai. Now, Sydney is next in line!
