Travellers, it seems like it is, indeed, going to be a happy Diwali this year! As per an analysis by travel portal ixigo, airfares on many domestic routes have fallen by 20-25% this Diwali season, as compared to prices a year back! Read on to know more about this report.
Average Airfare Fall By 20-25% This Diwali Season
A new report by travel portal ixigo has shown that average airfare on several Indian domestic routes has declined by 20-25% this Diwali season. According to the analysis, increased passenger-carrying capacity as well as the recent fall in oil prices are the primary reasons for the fall in air ticket prices.
For this analysis, the travel portal compared airfares for one-way tickets with a 30-day advance purchase. They considered the period of November 10-16, 2023 and October 28-November 3, 2024 — time around Diwali to compare the airfare prices on the domestic routes.
While talking to Business Today, ixigo Group CEO, Aloke Bajpai mentioned that last year, there was an airfare surge around Diwali. This was mainly driven by the limited capacity of flights, especially after the suspension of Go First Airlines. Also, the oil prices dropping by almost 15% this year have added to this Diwali delight.
Routes That Have Seen Most Drops In Airfare This Festive Season
As per reports, the biggest decline in airfare this Diwali season has been recorded on the Bengaluru-Kolkata flight. As per the Business Today report, this route reported an average 38% decline in airfare with the air ticket price dropping from ₹10,195 last year to ₹6,319 this year.
Some more major dips were noted on the Chennai-Kolkata route with a 36% decline in airfare. The ticket prices on this route came down to ₹5,604 from ₹8,725 last year. On the Mumbai-Delhi route, the report showed a dip of 34% with airfare coming down to ₹5,762 from ₹8,788 earlier. There has been a 32% decline in airfares on the Delhi-Kolkata, Hyderabad-Delhi, and Delhi-Srinagar routes as well.
