This year, the Ayodhya administration lit 7.5 lakh diyas to celebrate Deepotsav in the city. On Diwali, the earthen lamps were lit on the banks of river Saryu at Ram Ki Paidi ghat. By illuminating 7.5 lakh diyas, Ayodhya created a new Guinness World Record. The event was organised with around 7000 volunteers. A team from the Guinness World Record was present to witness and assess the event. Deepotsav celebration had started in Ayodhya in 2017, after Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath came to power in Uttar Pradesh. This year, Ayodhya celebrated its fifth Deepotsav. Uttar Pradesh’s Department of Tourism and Dr. Ram Manohar Lohia Awadh University jointly entered Guinness World Records for the largest display of oil lamps during 2021 Deepotsav.

The Administration Conducted Three Runs Before The Final Event
This Diwali, Ayodhya lit up 7.5 lakh diyas at Ram Ki Paidi ghat. According to a Hindustan Times report, officials said that the Ayodhya administration involved around 7000 volunteers for the event and most of them were students from Ayodhya’s Ram Manohar Lohia Awadh University. The lighting of lamps during Deepotsav was also coupled with a laser show. The administration had conducted three trial runs before the final event.

Ayodhya Created Guinness World Record This Deepotsav
Last year, Ayodhya had lit 6,06,569 diyas at the Ram Ki Paidi ghat and some other ghats during Deepotsav. 4,10,000 diyas were lit in the city during the festival in 2019. This year, the city set a record with 7.5 lakh diyas. In 2020, the administration had allowed only locals to attend the celebrations due to COVID-19.
