If you’re planning on travelling to Bangkok, there’s one restaurant you must put on your list: Potong. Opened in 2021 by the award-winning Chef Pichaya “Pam” Soontornyanakij, it has quickly made its mark on the global food scene. And in 2025, Potong debuted at No. 13 on the World’s 50 Best Restaurants list, earning the Highest New Entry Award of the year.
Potong, Bangkok’s Remarkable Thai-Chinese Restaurant
The world of fine dining is undergoing a revolution, and a shining example in Asia is Potong, a Thai-Chinese restaurant in Bangkok. Located in Bangkok’s Yaowarat (Chinatown), this is no ordinary restaurant.
The building itself, a 5-storey Portuguese-style shophouse from 1910, once served as Chef Pam’s family’s traditional Chinese herbal medicine shop. Today, this historic structure has turned into one of the world’s most thrilling dining destinations.
Even though “Potong” means “simple” in Chinese, what you’ll find here is anything but. The restaurant offers a brilliant Thai-Chinese tasting menu that is as complex as it is captivating. Chef Pam has built her menu on five key elements—salt, acid, spice, texture, and the Maillard reaction.
Dining here is a multi-sensory experience that indulges all your senses: sight, sound, smell, taste, and touch. Every detail, from the ambience and service to the cocktails and plating, is designed to deliver an immersive experience.
