The Banjara Market, which is the only source of livelihood for many shopkeepers in Delhi, is finally getting its new address. The Market was abolished In October 2021 by the Haryana Shahari Vikas Pradhikaran (HSVP) and the community was removed from sector 53, Gurgaon as the shops were on government land. The shopkeepers and their shops soon returned and in April 2022, another demolition drive was carried out. But finally, there’s good news for the Gadia Lohar community. Their favorite Banjara Market has now moved to a new location – sector 70A, Gurgaon.
More Than 400 Huts Are Currently In Construction In The New Location Of Banjara Market
Even though Banjara Market has a new address at sector 70A, Gurgaon, permission for the same hasn’t been granted by the govt. Sumit Kumar, joint commissioner, zone-3, Municipal Corporation of Gurgaon, under which sector 70A falls, said to Indian Express, “No permission has been granted to shopkeepers regarding running a market in the area. Even if it is on private land, they need requisite clearances from the civic agency. We will look into it and if there is anything illegal or any encroachment, it shall be removed.”
Meanwhile, more than 400 huts are currently being built to work as shops and homes for the shopkeepers and their families in sector 70A. Well, if the market continues to exist in the new location or is demolished again, only time will tell!
