Earlier this month, National Geographic listed Sikkim as one of the” Coolest Places in the World to Visit in 2024″. Among 30 destinations listed, Sikkim is the only Indian destination to make it to the coveted list. And now in good news, Sikkim has opened five of its most popular regions for tourism barring extreme parts of the Northern region.
Sikkim Opens 5 Popular Destinations For Tourism Barring Northern Region
According to a report by Hindustan Times, the Additional Secretary of Sikkim’s Tourism and Civil Aviation Department, Bandana Chettri revealed that Sikkim was opening five of its most popular destinations for tourism. These are Gangtok, Namchi, Soreng, Pakyong and Gyalshing. All these five regions are safe to visit having pleasant weather conditions. Also, citing troubled weather conditions in North Sikkim, the government has kept this region closed to tourists.
An advisory released on Monday states that the impact of flooding in Teesta has normalised. So, the Himalayan state has opened all other destinations for tourists except for the extreme Northern region, which isn’t accessible. Bandana Chettri further urged people to visit Sikkim and bask in its pristine natural beauty. The North East is slowly making its way into the hearts of tourists.
When it comes to Sikkim, the Himalayan state was ravaged by flash floods in the Teesta river. This happened due to a cloudburst in the early hours of October 4, killing 40 people. Sikkim welcomes over a million tourists every year. The tourism industry is one of the core sources of revenue for the state. With National Geographic listing Sikkim as one of the coolest destinations to visit in Asia and the globe, it has only but piqued the curiosity of travellers.
