With the announcement by Southwestern Railways (SWR) of the expansion of MEMU (Mainline Electric Multiple Unit) train services between Chikkaballapur and Devanahalli, Nandi Hills, a well-liked weekend getaway spot in Bengaluru, now has electric rail connectivity. On Monday, the new electric train service was launched. So people get ready to experience the magic of Nandi Hills with the convenience of electric trains.
First Electric Train Service From Nandi Hills Begins Today
Reports state that 06593/06594 The MEMU trains that will be stopped at Nandi Hills include 06531/06532 Bengaluru Cantonment-Chikkaballapur-Cantonment, 06535/06538 Chikkaballapur-Bengaluru Cantonment-Chikkaballapur, and Yeswantpur-Chikkaballapur-Yeswantpu.
The Nandi station, located about two kilometres from the foot of the Nandi Hills, is where the train will stop.
Situated just 60 kilometres from Bengaluru, the Nandi Hills route has traffic gridlock on weekends, especially long weekends, due to the influx of thousands of visitors to the popular tourist destination.
Though it would still be difficult to get to the hilltop without a personal vehicle, the additional train services are anticipated to make the journey to Nandi Hills easier. By placing the MEMU trains on congested lines, the railway agency has begun testing them. Indian Railways announced that the MEMU trains would operate six days a week from various stops in the country.

MEMU Trains From Bengaluru
The previous year saw the introduction of MEMU trains from several Bengaluru railway stations to Kempegowda International Airport. The ticket for the Bengaluru airport express train is between ₹30 and ₹35 per person; therefore, these are substantially less expensive for travellers.
This is in contrast to the normal ₹200–₹500 fare for the BMTC Vayu Vajra and the cab fares obtained through ride-hailing applications, which might exceed ₹2,000 based on the city’s location.
Earlier, SWR arranged a one-day tour package along the 108-year-old heritage rail route connecting Bengaluru, Devanahalli, and Chikkaballapur. Plans include, among other historical locations, visiting Devanahalli Fort, the Adiyogi bust at Chikkaballapur (Isha Foundation), restoring heritage stations, and scheduling trains for sunrise at Nandi Hills. Nandi Hills, A Blissful Tourist Spot
For Bengaluru’s urban populace, Nandi Hills, also known as Nandi Durga, is undoubtedly the most well-liked weekend getaway location. The rivers North Palar, South Pennar, Chitravathi, Arkavathi, and Papaghni all have their origins in the Nandi Hills.
It was ruled by the Marathas, Tipu Sultan, the Paleyagars of Chikkaballapura, and then the British. According to the ancient inscriptions, it was known as “Nandigiri.”

North-west: Channakeshava Betta (4762 feet), south-west: Brahmagiri (4657 feet), north: Skandagiri (4749 feet), south: the steep cliff and the well at the bottom known as “Shravana Tirtha.” The Nandi Hills are a great spot to go trekking.
