According to a report by Hindustan Times, the Income Tax department raided five outlets of Meghana Foods. The raids were conducted in the wee hours of the morning of Tuesday, March 19. They were carried out at the restaurant’s Indiranagar, Koramangala and Jayanagar outlets. The Karnataka and Goa IT teams had suspicions of alleged income tax evasion. The report further mentions that the IT department remains tight-lipped about the issue. Moreover, the owners of the food joint weren’t available for comments.

So, it remains unknown why the eatery is facing action. On its website, Meghna Foods mentions that it’s proud to be a favourite among the masses. This includes corporate people, college students, families and also singletons. Established in 2006, Meghana Foods has five branches in Bengaluru. Apart from the Koramangala branch catering to college students, it also has outlets in Indiranagar and Jayanagar for family diners. People often visit the restaurant or arrange online delivery for its Chicken Biryani, spicy-tangy Lemon Chicken, Paneer Biryani, Nati Chicken Curry and more.

As per a News18 report, the documents of the outlets were being checked and verified. And ahead of the Lok Sabha elections, it still needs to be verified if the restaurant had any political affiliations for which it is under the scanner of the Income Tax Department. In 2023, the Income Tax department raided a few restaurants in Bengaluru for evading taxes using different UPI accounts. The restaurants constantly changed the UPI accounts to ensure the tax authorities didn’t decipher the actual turnover.
