The most-awaited Yellow Line of Namma Metro in Bengaluru has been finally inaugurated. Just after the launch, the city’s metro network witnessed its busiest day ever. Across all three lines, a total of 10,48,031 people travelled via metro, Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) reported. Read to know more details.
Bengaluru Metro Witnesses Record-Breaking Single-Day Ridership
According to Hindustan Times, on Monday, the Namma Metro network in Bengaluru recorded the highest number of passengers in a single day. This city metro recently launched the Yellow Line, which is 19.4 km long and connects RV Road in Jayanagar to Bommasandra, passing through Electronic City. Now, with the addition of the Yellow Line, metro network in the city is 96 km long. Here’s the passenger breakdown on each line on Monday –
- Purple Line: 4,51,816
- Green Line: 2,91,677
- Yellow Line: 52,215
- Interchange stations (where people change lines): 2,52,323
Before this total count of 10,48,031 passengers in one day, the metro’s previous highest single-day ridership was recorded on June 4, 2025. It was 9,66,732 passengers in a day, when Royal Challengers Bengaluru won the IPL finale.

Launch Of Yellow Line
The development programme for the Yellow Line was delayed for over four years because of COVID-19. Now, it’s finally launched and has significantly reduced passengers’ travel time. As per The Hindu, travelling from RV Road to Bommasandra takes an hour or more because of heavy traffic, but now with the Yellow Line, it takes just 33 minutes.
The total cost of the 19.143 km-long Yellow Line construction is ₹7,160 crore. It was inaugurated by the Prime Minister Narendra Modi recenly. This line connects 16 stations, including business and IT areas in South Bengaluru and aims to reduce the heavy traffic on these roads.
After successfully launching this new metro line, Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) is expecting around 8 lakh passengers to travel on the Yellow Line and 12.5 lakh passengers daily across all lines.
