Recently, a video went viral on social media of a farmer being denied entry to the Bengaluru Metro rail by a supervisor. The farmer in question possessed a valid ticket; however, the supervisor said that his clothes were violating the dress code. A couple of other passengers who saw what was happening voiced their objections stating that as long as the farmer had a valid ticket, he was allowed to board the metro irrespective of his clothing.
Bengaluru Metro Supervisor Denies Entry To A Farmer
UNBELIEVABLE..! Is metro only for VIPs? Is there a dress code to use Metro?
I appreciate actions of Karthik C Airani, who fought for the right of a farmer at Rajajinagar metro station. We need more such heroes everywhere. @OfficialBMRCL train your officials properly. #metro pic.twitter.com/7SAZdlgAEH— Deepak N (@DeepakN172) February 24, 2024
According to an article which was recently published by the Hindustan Times or HT, the incident took place at the Rajajinagar Metro Station on February 26, 2024. The video was shared on X (formerly known as Twitter) by Deepak N.
The video showed the security supervisor arguing with another passenger over why the farmer should be denied entry to the metro. Karthik C Airani, who was the person taking a stand for the farmer, is heard asking the supervisor to prove the existence of such a dress code.
As per the posts made on X, it seems that Airani was successful in defending the farmer and the farmer eventually got to travel in the metro. However, the video blew up and incited outrage at the Bengaluru Metro. Many called out its discriminatory behaviour.

In a series of posts made on X, the BMRCL stated that the metro was an inclusive metro service and that the incident was being investigated. The post also went on to mention that the supervisor who denied the farmer entry had been terminated.
Further, BMRCL also confirms that the passenger travelled in Namma metro from Rajajinagar to Majestic. Also, an internal committee is constituted for a detailed enquiry headed by Dy. Chief Security Officer. We again regret for the incident. FKI. @srivasrbmrccoi1

To this, many said that the decision taken was too harsh. Deepak, too, responded by saying that firing the official was not the right thing to do and instead, they should have trained him.
@OfficialBMRCL, please let me know if the basic training addresses this issue.
Have you trained your employees on the code of conduct properly?
If not, then don’t terminate the employee. It’s your fault.— Deepak N (@DeepakN172) February 26, 2024
