Airports provide the perfect opportunity to indulge in some retail therapy while waiting for your flight. Browsing through a curated selection of premium branded products, taking out some time to pamper yourself with the finest perfumes, and of course, stuffing your handbags with imported chocolates, are some pleasure points. What if we were to tell you that you can soon have a premium shopping experience at Bengaluru railway stations? This isn’t too good to be true; this is the future!
SWR To Introduce Premium Brands At Bengaluru Railway Stations

As per a report by Deccan Herald, the South Western Railway (SWR) will soon lease retail space for single-branded shops at all major stations located in the Bengaluru division. This is an effort to enhance SWR’s non-fare revenue streams. Moreover, it follows the Railway Board’s new policy to give contracts by delegating unused vacant spaces. These vacant spaces will be used to set up premium stalls through a transparent e-auction.
Most importantly, this move to have airport-like retail spaces at Bengaluru railway stations will greatly benefit passengers by enhancing the travel experience. Whether it’s last-minute shopping, purchasing gifts for loved ones, or spending a little extra time on window shopping, travellers can enjoy a premium shopping experience even during a tiring, often routine journey.

Retail Spaces To Generate Non-Fare Revenue For Railways
The report by Deccan Herald reveals that the premium branded outlets will come up in prime locations within the premises of railway stations. Travellers can expect high-end brands offering apparel, footwear, travel accessories, and many other lifestyle products. For long, high-end stores haven’t been a primary feature of Indian Railways.
However, amidst a rapidly changing landscape and the exposure to high-end brands, Indian Railways wants to give travellers a premium retail experience. Under the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme, premium single-brand outlets will be given permission to operate at major stations in the country. This will help railways to generate non-fare revenue.
