Bengalureans seem to have a sarcastic and creative mind when it comes to cocktails! An X (formerly Twitter) user, Arnav Gupta, posted about a cocktail named after Varthur Lake pollution. And yes, it comes topped with a froth-like substance to add to the effect! The restaurant in question here is Oota Whitefield and they’re serving cocktails called ‘Varthur Overflow’. According to their menu, this cocktail has tequila, orange brandy, vetiver vodka, pineapple juice, fresh citrus, ripe jackfruit, and salt air. In his post, Arnav Gupta writes, “This city literally will make memes to the point of parody cocktails instead of fix itself 🥲”
Varthur Lake was in the news in 2017 when foam spilt out of the lake onto the Whitefield Main Road. This has now almost become an annual occurrence, especially during monsoon season. The toxic foam makes it difficult for residents to cross the area due to the spillage and pungent smell. Sadly, it’s not just Varthur Lake that is seeing such frothy, toxic spillage. There is also news about Bellandur Lake in the city which sees a similar issue annually.

You gotta say it’s evocative. The colour of the water, the windswept foam, the overwhelmed bridge. 100% accurate.
