Social media users like Naresh Kumar (@naresh_creatz) and Bangalore Malayalis (@bangalore_malayalis) took to their handles to share videos of the sudden hailstorm in Bengaluru. Many are saying, “Anything is possible in Bengaluru!” In the clips, small ice pellets can be seen falling along with light rain, making the weather turn cool and totally unexpected.

According to Deccan Herald, Bengaluru experienced heavy rainfall, lightning, and gusty winds. Areas like Sanjayanagar, Yelahanka, and Devanahalli even experienced a sudden hailstorm. The sudden rain also cooled things down, with temperatures dropping slightly across the city. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) confirmed the hailstorm was short-lived but impactful. People are advised to stay alert and reach out for help if needed. 

For March 18, IMD has predicted light to moderate rain and thundershowers across several parts of Karnataka. Areas likely to be affected include Bengaluru Urban and Rural, Ramanagara, Tumakuru, Mandya, Chikkamagaluru, Shivamogga, Hassan, Kodagu, Davangere, Mysuru, and Chamarajanagar

As the weather took an unexpected turn in Bengaluru, IndiGo issued a travel advisory for passengers flying to and from the city. In a post on X, the airline said the sudden change caused delays, though the situation has started improving. However, flight movements haven’t fully returned to normal yet.

IndiGo also reassured passengers that their teams are actively assisting travellers and closely monitoring the situation. Passengers have been advised to stay updated through the airline’s website and app.

After the sudden summer heat made it difficult for residents to step out, this rainfall has brought a sense of relief.
