Bengaluru Man Thanks Traffic For Helping Him Lose Weight; Says, “I’m Fitter Than I Was At 25”

Bengaluru is notorious for its traffic. Jam-packed roads and congestion on key routes are part of daily life. Social media posts often go viral discussing how it can take hours to reach a destination that is just 15 or 20 minutes away. However, a viral Reddit post is now doing the rounds for a very different reason. The post claims Bengaluru’s traffic ended up making a professional healthier, without even trying. Here’s how.

Reddit User Talks About Bengaluru Traffic

Unpopular opinion: Bengaluru’s traffic actually made me healthier

The post, which has gained attention, was made by a Reddit user (u/Superb-Fan-1074 )recently. The Redditor shared that he used to commute daily from Whitefield to Koramangala for work. The journey took around 90 minutes each way. He explained that he was constantly stressed, ate most of his meals at his desk, and had zero physical activity in his routine.

Things changed last year when the Redditor shifted to working from home for three days a week. He then began making small changes to his daily routine. The Bengaluru-based professional started going to a gym near his home at 6 am, a time when most gyms are empty, and there is no waiting. Apart from that, he made another key change. Instead of ordering food on Swiggy, he began walking to nearby restaurants.

Things Changed For The Better

Working from home clearly changed things for the better. Since he spent less time commuting, he invested that time in walking and working out. In the post, he also wrote, ” The traffic didn’t get better. I just stopped fighting it. Now I’m fitter than I was at 25. My resting heart rate dropped from 82 to 64. I’ve lost 8 kgs without trying.” He ended the post by asking fellow Redditors a question: “Anyone else accidentally got healthier by giving up on the commute?”

The post received mixed reactions online. One user pointed out, “The traffic did not make you healthier. The WFH did. Now, instead of time spent commuting, you’re hitting the gym.” Another user commented, “I sold my bike, and now I walk everywhere. My cholesterol levels are back to normal. For the office, I take a quick ride.”

Many netizens agreed that professionals in Bengaluru lose a lot of time just travelling to and from work. Several users also highlighted the importance of working from home and how it allows people to focus more on their health and, yes, personal life.
