Bengaluru is India’s IT Hub and one of the places where you will find a large number of start-ups. However, just like other cities, this one too has certain issues! Despite being famed as the ‘Silicon Valley Of India’, it lacks proper infrastructure and management. Bengaluru is a hotspot for urban flooding! And this fear has forced a resident techie to leave his plush bungalow and shift to a gated community.
Bengaluru Flood Fear Forces Techie To Leave His Villa!
According to a report by The Hindu, a 43-year-old techie, Karthik Krishnan, is planning to move to a nearby gated community. But, why? The affluent Rainbow Drive Layout off Sarjapur Road, where he has a plush bungalow worth ₹1.8 crores, has a serious issue of flooding during the monsoon season. He will be moving his family into the house he has rented at Muthanallur Cross on the Sarjapur-Marathahalli road on June 1 and will ultimately pay ₹1.2 lakhs per month.
While his home was partially inundated last year, the Residents Welfare Association’s compound wall on the east side of the layout will make the flood more substantial. Now that the BBMP has declared the RWA’s plan to demolish the wall unconstitutional, he has filed a lawsuit against it.

The RWA was given notice by the BBMP to demolish the building built over a stormwater drain (SWD) in February 2023.
Flooding Issues & Its Management
In the tech city, this is not the only incident of displacement brought on by flooding. In order to avoid the deluge brought on by the excessive rains, a large number of residents of Sri Sai Layout in Horamavu have also evacuated.
Approximately 35 acres and 25 years old RBD Layout saw the worst floods in September 2022, causing the people to travel to work on boats for a few days. The locals also hired tractors to transport kids to school. However, despite Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) taking a few steps, the situation has not changed after roughly eight months.

The works have been put on hold because of the legal dispute between BBMP and the RWA, which has now reached the courts.
