The Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) has been working on this extension as part of the Phase II expansion of Namma Metro. The new segment introduces three additional stations: Manjunathnagar, Chikkabidarakallu, and Madavara. BMRCL’s Managing Director announced that trial operations will begin shortly, and commercial services will start after receiving clearance from the Commissioner of Metro Railway Safety (CMRS), expected by September.

Currently, trains on the Green Line terminate at Nagasandra. The new extension will continue the line up to Madavara, providing a direct metro link to the Bangalore International Exhibition Centre (BIEC) on Tumakuru Road. This development is expected to ease travel for visitors attending events at the BIEC, as well as commuters from Nelamangala and nearby areas.

The extension is projected to attract an additional 25,000 to 30,000 passengers daily. BMRCL officials are preparing to adjust the service frequency based on the demand. The construction work at the Madavara station is nearly complete, with traction power supply already in place at the other two stations. Final preparations are underway to ensure everything is ready for the upcoming trial runs.

This extension has faced several delays due to various challenges. Construction setbacks, land acquisition issues with the NICE authorities, and the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic have all contributed to the delays. Despite these obstacles, the BMRCL is now on track to launch this key metro link.

The BMRCL is also preparing to launch the Yellow Line by the end of this year. The Yellow Line will stretch 19.15 kilometres from RV Road to Bommasandra. It will feature at least eight trains operating at 15-minute intervals. This line’s launch is eagerly awaited and will significantly enhance Bengaluru’s metro connectivity.
