1. Chawla’s

Some small and some hole-in-the-wall Punjabi eateries line up the by-lanes of Sion-Koliwada, giving it all the mini Punjab feels. Here, food is all that matters and ambience can take a back seat. One such eatery is ‘Chawla’s Dhaba’. Owned by Gurjeet Singh, this pure-veg (yes, Punjabis can make delicious veg food too!) dhaba serves the best Chole Bhature that you can find in the city. Amritsari spiced chole with piping hot, fluffy, bhatura served with pickles, coriander chutney, and onions, add to that a big glass of lassi – a typical dhaba meal in a typical dhaba. To top it all, they make the bhatures and rotis right in front of you in their big tandoor. All that it needs to qualify as a roadside dhaba of Punjab is a highway. That’s how authentic it is! With few tables, a live kitchen, dim lights and possibly a newspaper to soak up all that oil – Chawla’s in Sion checks all the boxes.
