We often hear our parents, uncles-aunts, and grandparents talking about the differences between recent generations and decades back and saying, “Hamare zamane mein..”. While many millennials and GenZ get irritated listening to this, our elders are not wrong at all times. There is no denying that they got the opportunity to eat healthy and fresh food items. These days, vegetables and fruits are loaded with toxic chemicals. This is unfortunately, a fact.  A recent video of grape adulteration shows the reality.

Are Grapes Really So Shiny?

Taking to Instagram, Kartik Poojari (@poojarikartik89) shared a video highlighting the adulteration of grapes.

A family member must wake up in the morning and visit the market every day to buy fruits, vegetables, and other ingredients needed to cook dishes on that day. We have seen our parents rushing to nearby markets as early as possible to buy the freshest and shiniest vegetables and fruits from shops. But the actual question is whether all these products are truly fresh.

More shine often is a bad indication. While many might consider this to be a representation of healthy and good-quality products, the reality is quite the opposite. The Instagram reel embedded above is a proper example of breaking our myths and misconceptions about these polished fruits, fish, and vegetables available in markets.

This video captured a few men adulterating crates of grapes. It can be seen how each crate loaded with grapes is dipped in a solution of many chemicals and then left under the scorching sun. These steps are usually followed to add an extra layer of shine to the fruits.

There are some significant reasons behind more and more people falling sick and becoming weaker. Eating all these unhealthy chemicals unknowingly is a major cause. We cannot stop ourselves from eating these fruits as more often than not it’s difficult to find unadulterated products in the markets. However, we can take some small steps to stop these chemicals from entering our bodies.

The next time you are buying grapes from the market, dip the fruit in a solution of water and salt. You can even dip them in water and baking soda to get rid of the chemicals. Washing every vegetable thoroughly is an important step to remove all the dirt and residue.
