Not many of you must have heard the name of a small town called Jaigaon. This place is different and is located right next to Phuentsholing in Bhutan. What makes it interesting is that people living here can casually enjoy breakfast in India, then easily head to Bhutan, and return home in the evening, without much hassle.

You can literally walk into Bhutan from Jaigaon without a visa or passport. A simple stroll takes you across the border, where you can explore a new place, shop a little, and come back the same day. It sounds unreal, but for locals, it’s completely normal.

Where Can People From Jaigaon Stay In Bhutan?

Though people living in Jaigaon can enter Bhutan, they are not allowed to travel freely across the country. They are only allowed to travel within Phuentsholing. If you want to go further, like Thimphu or Paro, you’ll need extra permits. Also, you can easily drive your Indian vehicle into Bhutan, but only within a limited area that is near the border. As per India Today, if you take your vehicle beyond the Rinchending Check Post, you’ll have to pay a green tax of around ₹4,500 per day.

Also, don’t think Jaigaon has a lot to explore, because it surely does! The Bhutan Gate instantly grabs your attention with its stunning design. A short drive takes you into the lush Dooars, where Jaldapara National Park and Buxa Tiger Reserve are perfect for wildlife lovers. Want something calmer? Sikiyajhora is great for peaceful boat rides. And nearby Hasimara, with its tea gardens and mixed culture, just adds to the charm.
