Built In 1986 And Restored In 2022, The World’s Longest Car Comes With 26 Wheels, A Pool, And Even A Helipad

First built in 1986, it was painstakingly restored in 2022 after a three-year, $250,000 project. Today, the legendary limo is back in all its glory and proudly displayed at Dezerland Park Auto Museum in Orlando, Florida.

Built In 1986 And Restored In 2022, The World’s Longest Car Comes With 26 Wheels, A Pool, And Even A Helipad

If you thought limousines were already the kings of the road, wait until you hear about The American Dream. This car is the longest in the world, a true record-breaker that stretches so far you’ll run out of road before it runs out of length! On March 1, 2022, Guinness World Records officially confirmed it: The American Dream now measures a jaw-dropping 30.54 metres. That’s definitely longer than most people’s imagination when it comes to cars.

Meet The American Dream, The World’s Longest Limousine

The story of this car starts in 1986, in Burbank, California. Famous car customiser Jay Ohrberg built it using a 1976 Cadillac Eldorado limousine. At first, it was 60 feet long with 26 wheels and not one but two V8 engines: one in the front and one at the back. But Jay wanted to go bigger. So, he made it reach the 100-foot mark, which earned it a Guinness World Record back then, too.

This limo is actually built in two parts, joined by a hinge in the middle. This way, it can still turn around corners without getting stuck. And it can be driven from either end!

The American Dream isn’t just long; it was about being extravagant. According to the Guinness World Records, this extraordinary automobile features a waterbed, a swimming pool, a jacuzzi and bathtub, a mini-golf course, a helipad that can hold 5,000 pounds, multiple televisions, a refrigerator, and even a telephone. And if that isn’t enough, it can comfortably carry over 75 people.

When the world’s longest car was first built, The American Dream became a star. It appeared in movies, was rented for shows, and had all the attention it could ask for. But there were problems too. Where do you even park a 100-foot car? Who needs to rent such a massive limo for everyday use? Slowly, the once-glorious car was left abandoned behind a New Jersey warehouse.

The Restoration Of A Car Built For Pure Extravagance

That’s when Michael Manning, founder of Autoseum (a teaching museum in New York), stepped in. Even though it looked like junk, he saw its potential. He managed to acquire the car through eBay, but restoring it wasn’t easy. Manning’s plan to fix it with community help fell through, and for years the limo sat unused behind his school.

Finally, in 2019, the car caught the attention of Michael Dezer, a car collector and owner of Dezerland Tourist Attractions in Florida. According to the Guinness World Records, he bought it and teamed up with Manning to bring The American Dream back to life. The limo was split into two parts and transported from New York to Orlando, Florida. Manning, along with students, car experts, and restoration pros, worked tirelessly for three years.

More than $250,000 was spent on materials, labour, and shipping, and The American Dream slowly came back to life. Once the restoration was complete in 2022, the longest car in the world was once again shining.

However, there was still a problem: this car is too long to drive on normal roads. It is currently on display at Orlando, Florida’s Dezerland Park Auto Museum.
