The Veermata Jijabai Bhosale Botanical Garden and Zoo in Byculla, Mumbai, is preparing to host its 28th annual horticultural exhibition. Known as the Flower Festival, it will take place from January 31 to February 2, 2025. The three-day event, organised by the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation or the BMC, promises to transform the garden into a vibrant tapestry of colours and fragrances. According to an article that was recently published by mid-day, the festival will be under the leadership of BMC Commissioner Bhushan Gagrani and Additional Municipal Commissioner Dr. Amit Saini. The festival will showcase approximately 5,000 plants, including various species of flowers, fruit trees, and medicinal plants.
Deputy Commissioner Chanda Jadhav and Parks Superintendent Jitendra Pardeshi are overseeing the arrangements for this floral extravaganza. The festival has historically attracted distinguished visitors, including ambassadors from Japan, Malaysia, Canada, and Mauritius, as well as prominent figures from the judiciary, entertainment, and sports sectors.
Visitors can explore stalls offering gardening supplies and fertilisers, catering to both amateur gardeners and environmental enthusiasts.
Other Updates About This Iconic Zoo In Mumbai
In related developments, the Byculla zoo section is set to enhance its attractions with a new reptile house. The Central Zoo Authority has approved the construction of a 500-square-metre facility opposite the hippo exhibit, which will house 14 species of snakes, including the Indian cobra, Indian rock python, and trinket snake.
Dr. Sanjay Tripathy, Director of Byculla Zoo, confirmed that the design and cost estimates for the reptile house will be finalised within the next fortnight. The facility will feature advanced temperature and humidity control systems to maintain natural conditions for the reptiles.
The BMC invites all Mumbaikars to attend the Flower Festival, offering a peaceful retreat from urban life while showcasing the city’s commitment to preserving and celebrating nature’s diversity.
