We read somewhere that not all heroes wear capes, some just wear sarees/suits and ensure that we don’t face any inconvenience in life! Our mothers are our biggest cheerleaders, our support system, and the 2 AM friend who has the best advice to handle any crisis. So, it only makes sense to make her feel seen and celebrated, especially on occasions like Mother’s Day. And that’s exactly what India did this year! According to a report by Swiggy, around 302,117 cakes were ordered across India on Mother’s Day 2025.
How India Celebrated Mother’s Day 2025
According to the press release, this Mother’s Day, Swiggy noted a surge in heartfelt gestures, with cakes, thalis, and sit-down meals emerging as the top ways Indians expressed love for their mothers. Peaking at an astonishing 620 cakes per minute at 7:43 PM on May 11, Mother’s Day 2025 saw 302,117 cakes ordered across 270,257 orders on Swiggy.
Last year, the cake orders were around 236,953. Interestingly, the cake orders on this Sunday even outpaced Valentine’s Day 2025, which recorded 208,207 cake orders. Swiggy observed the biggest spike around 7 PM, which alone accounted for 30,562 cake orders on the platform.
Metro cities like Mumbai, Bangalore, Delhi, Hyderabad and Kolkata were among the top cake-orderers. The highest single user bill for cake stood at ₹ 9,426 in Mumbai. Cities like Muzaffarpur, Jalandhar, Gorakhpur, Meerut and Kanpur saw the highest growth over last Sunday. Furthermore, Tier 2 and 3 cities like Nellore, Ujjain, Srinagar, Hanumangarh, Bhilwara, and Kurukshetra also recorded a surge in cake orders. This surge reflects the growing usage of food delivery platforms in smaller towns.
Swiggy’s Bolt saw a total of 31,896 cake deliveries on Mother’s Day. This was a 181% jump compared to the previous Sunday of May. The top cities for Bolt cake orders included Mumbai, Delhi, Bangalore, Hyderabad, and Kolkata. Meanwhile, cities like Patna, Surat, Dehradun, Warangal, and Vadodara also saw a notable surge.
It Was Family Time Over Fine Dine
Swiggy Boly went beyond cake ordering this Mother’s Day. The most popular dishes ordered via Bolt were chicken biryani and veg dosa. The maximum single order value was ₹12,585, and it featured multiple biryani buckets. Besides food delivery, Dineout also witnessed a 35% rise in bookings over a typical Sunday. This trend showed how families came together to treat mothers to a meal out.
Dining experiences in metro cities, including Delhi, Kolkata, Pune, Mumbai, and Chennai, grew by over 30%. Interestingly, table sizes of 6-10 people saw a 13% uptick in bookings. This indicated larger family gatherings this year. Another data revealed Tier 2 cities showing restaurant-booking growth over a regular Sunday–Vadodara (70%), Dehradun and Lucknow (65% each), Nagpur (60%), and Agra (55%).
