There are certain perceptions we have about a destination and the food it offers. ‘India only has spicy food’, ‘Greece has bland food’ and ‘China doesn’t have vegetarian food’. When it comes to the last prejudice, it’s time to hear the truth from the horse’s mouth, rather, an Indian vegetarian man living in China. Atharva Maheshwari took to his YouTube channel to give a tour of a buzzing Kunming market, and here’s why you should check it out too.
Indian Man Gives Tour Of China Market Known For Its Wide Variety Of Veggies
Atharva Maheshwari lives in Guangzhou in China, and he has taken it upon himself to share informative, unfiltered videos about living in the nation. One of his videos revolves around debunking a longstanding belief that vegetarians cannot survive in China. Being a vegetarian himself, he had to break this myth. And he did so with a YouTube video that takes viewers on a tour across a massive vegetable market in Kunming.
Maheshwari called this market a paradise for vegetarians and stated that it has more varieties of veggies than those found in India. A tall claim! In an indoor vegetable market in Kunming, vendors are seen seated beside heaps of fresh, green veggies. There’s asparagus, Chinese green leafy veggies, corn, carrot, okra, green peas, brinjal and more. A large variety of mushrooms can be seen as well. In Maheshwari’s opinion, China has a higher quality of veggies than India. And the produce sold at these markets plays a perfect role in Indian dishes.

No Separate Market In China For Veg & Non-Veg Produce
When it comes to the market in Kunming, the content creator informs that both meat and veggies are sold beside each other. There is no such thing as a separate market for veg and non-veg food items. A bunch of spring onions is priced at just 1 Yuan (₹12), informs Maheshwari in his YouTube video.
He also gives a glimpse of the wide array of tubers like sweet potato, ginger, radish, and galangal available as well. In Chinese cooking, lotus root is quite common, so markets sell that as well. Below his video were a couple of comments that thanked him for the informative glimpse and requested him to add more such videos on Chinese lifestyle.
