Karan Aujla Is A True Desi At Heart!
Karan Aujla spent a significant part of his life in Canada, and during a Sunday Brunch episode, we spoke to him about his life there. He shared how the strong Indian diaspora there helped him stay connected to his desi roots, even while living miles away from home. He confessed that he missed the simplicity with which he spent his early years in Ludhiana.
Of course, we had to ask him about the kind of food that he enjoyed there and what he prefers to eat, in general. “I would say I crave less Indian food when I am in India. I crave it more when I am overseas. When you’re out and there are all these nice steak houses, my friends are like: Let’s go on a fancy dinner! Main bolta hun: Dhaba dhundo yaar! Roti khani hai! Canadian Indian food is in my top three list, for sure,” Karan Aujla shares.
When asked if Canadian Indian food is different from Indian food in India, he said, “Obviously, same dishes milti hain, but jo India and Punjab ke khaane ka swaad hai, woh same toh nahi hai! Wahan pe butter chicken bana dete hai, but I feel it’s too sweet for me. Yahan pe toh kuch batana hi nahi pasta–mild, medium, or spicy–they know what you want as soon as they look at you!”

Taking Punjabi & Indian Music To A Global Stage
Stirring the conversation back to music, we asked him about his new album, P-Pop Culture and how he believes it will help put Indian and Punjabi music on the global map. “I want to make it into a cool thing. Like Spanish music plays in clubs, like house music plays at parties in Europe, I want to put Indian music out there. I know it is there, but it needs to be more out there. Agar hum bahar jaaye toh saare log garv ke sath yeah bol sake ki yeah humara banda hai,” Karan Aujla passionately spoke about his music.
