The latest episode of Sunday Brunch with Shehnaaz Gill and Kamiya Jani, our editor-in-chief, felt less like an interview and more like two old friends hanging out in Shehnaaz’s kitchen, chatting, laughing, and swapping stories over an unapologetically rich Punjabi meal. The table looked like a North Indian dream: butter chicken glistening in its orange glory, naans still puffed and hot, biryani fragrant enough to make you close your eyes for a second, and gulab jamuns bobbing lazily in syrup.
When Kamiya Discovered Shehnaaz Gill’s Secret, The ‘Black Water’ Habit
Soon after she was welcomed into Shehnaaz Gill’s home, Kamiya noticed something unusual on the counter: a sleek glass with black water. “Oh, this is black water?” she asked, curious. Shehnaaz, grinning like someone caught with their little quirk, nodded. “Yeah, I drink it during shoots,” she said, her tone half casual and half proud. She also mentions how she just loves the feeling of drinking it and proceeds to mention “kuch nahi hota isse...”
That single line said more about Shehnaaz than a thousand interviews ever could: her unfiltered honesty, her humour, and her very Punjabi logic of finding joy in small things. She wasn’t selling a lifestyle; she was just being herself, the same way she was when she reached for the gulab jamun before the main course.

Shehnaaz Gill Washes Her Hair With This Water!
Kamiya Jani, our editor-in-chief, laughed, picking up the bottle for a closer look. “But does it taste any different?” she asked. The question hung there for a moment before Shehnaaz shrugged, her eyes twinkling. “Minerals hain isme, matlab suna hai maine.” Then she adds in her witty style, “Main paani waise hi bohot kam peeti hoon, yeh mehenga hai toh lagta hai kuch accha daal rahi hoon andar.”
Not one to miss out, Kamiya poured herself a sip, took a careful taste, and laughed: “It tastes the same!” she chimed in, it did feel slightly smoother, maybe lighter, but otherwise, it was just water with a fancier label. Shehnaaz nodded knowingly and added that people could even install alkaline filters at home if they wanted the same thing. She even confessed to washing her hair with this water so as to maintain good hair health. This leads to Kamiya commenting, “fir colour karne ki, greys chhupaane ki zarurat nahi padegi..,” to which Shehnaaz replies, “Yeh mujhe nahi pata,” funnily refusing to take accountability in case the black water does no magic.
The exchange was light, spontaneous, and strangely comforting, the kind of moment you only get when two people forget the cameras are rolling. Between the laughter, the butter-laced fingers, and the easy teasing, Shehnaaz Gill reminded everyone why audiences adore her: she turns every conversation, even one about bottled water, into something real, funny, and utterly human.
