After a mix-up in flight route bookings, an online travel booking platform, Yatra, was directed to compensate more than ₹56,000 to a Chandigarh-based man. The directive was issued by the District Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission or the DCDRC of Chandigarh. The mix-up was that a direct flight was booked but the route of the ticket received was non-direct. Here are all of the important details that you would need to know about this particular case.
Chandigarh Man Gets ₹56K As Compensation From Yatra
According to an article which was recently published by The Indian Express, a man from Chandigarh received compensation for a booking mix-up. His son booked a ticket using the online travel booking platform, Yatra, to book a direct flight to Toronto in Canada from Delhi.
He paid a total of ₹59,000 for the direct flight which was scheduled to take place on September 3, 2019. However, he later found out that the travel firm had actually booked the ticket to Toronto via Madrid and Lisbon.
Kasim, the complainant, stated that on August 29, 2019, he attempted to cancel the ticket since his son would require a transit visa for this ticket which he did not have. However, the firm assured him that no such problem. On the date of travel though, he was denied entry at Delhi airport.

Other Important Details To Know About It
Ultimately, the son had to book a ticket which cost him ₹88,000. He later raised the issue with Yatra but they did not refund the ticket.
In its defence, Yatra said that in a call, they informed him that whether a transit visa is required can be confirmed by the embassy website. The Chandigarh DCDRC therefore directed the company to pay the complainant a total of ₹56,504.
