Recently, renowned Indian chef Kunal Kapur shared a post on Instagram shedding light on the Georgian version of Dim Sim called “Khinkali.”

On Instagram yesterday, chef Kunal Kapur posted a thorough account detailing the origins of Dim Sim. He begins by describing how Dim Sim is frequently linked to Chinese cuisine, even though it might not have originated there. As he travels more, he shares his fascination with discovering unexpected culinary connections around the world.

Chef Kunal explores the different international Dim Sims varieties in further detail. In India, he began by explaining that Dim Sims are referred to as “Momos.” In Afghanistan, they are called “Mantu” and are mouthwatering dumplings filled with meat and covered in Chana Dal. He goes on to say that they are known as “Mandu” in Korea and “Khinkali,” another delicious variety, in Georgia.

In his post, Chef Kunal showed pictures and video from his visit to a restaurant in Georgia, where he tried their version of Dim Sims called Khinkali. He showed each step of how to properly eat authentic Khinkhali. He also displayed the instruction card that was on the table, which explained how to properly eat a Khinkhali. It all looked really interesting.

Chef Kunal emphasises the distinctive culinary traditions of many cultures, emphasising that food speaks to all people and that learning about its diversity is always like rediscovering the world. He sheds light on the importance of cultural diversity in food.
