Prime Minister Narendra Modi is all set to inaugurate the world’s highest railway arch bridge, Chenab Rail Bridge in Jammu and Kashmir on June 6. Chenab Rail Bridge To Be Inaugurated By PM Modi
Union Minister for the Department of Space, Dr Jitendra Singh, announced that PM Narendra Modi will inaugurate the Chenab Rail Bridge on Friday. This rail bridge is recognised as the world’s highest railway bridge and is lauded as an engineering marvel.
The PM also took to social media to announce the inauguration of the bridge and said, “Chenab Bridge, the world’s highest railway arch bridge, is set to be inaugurated in Jammu and Kashmir. This state-of-the-art bridge will redefine railway connectivity across Kashmir.”
The Prime Minister will be visiting Jammu and Kashmir soon and will inaugurate the railway bridge built over the Chenab River in Jammu and Kashmir’s Reasi district. He will also launch the Anji Bridge, India’s first cable-stayed rail bridge that will serve the nation in a challenging terrain. This bridge connects the towns of Katra and Reasi and stands 331 metres above the riverbed below.
Bridge To Help Improve Kashmir’s Rail Connectivity With India
The Chenab Rail Bridge is situated at a height of 359 metres above the river. According to Jammu Links News, it has the world’s highest railway arch bridge. It has a 1,315-metre-long steel arch bridge, that is engineered to withstand seismic and wind conditions.
Built with 27,000 tonnes of steel, the Chenab Bridge will help Delhi get closer to Kashmir. Situated 600 km North of New Delhi, the bridge will connect the Kashmir valley with the rest of India through a railway network. The authorities believe this will help boost tourist activity and contribute to the economic activities in the zone.
