The Chennai Egmore–Madurai Junction Tejas Express connects Chennai Egmore and Madurai Junction in Tamil Nadu. In fact, it is India’s second semi-high-speed train. Southern Railway (SR) zone is in charge of the train’s maintenance and operation. In March 2019, Prime Minister Narendra Modi signalled the start of it. The Indian Railways, recently, approved its stoppage points. Here are the details.

The additional stoppage would be offered to the train, according to a statement from the zonal railway. It further confirmed that it is an experimental stopover for Train No. 22671/22672 of the Tejas Superfast Express between Chennai Egmore and Madurai.

From this point on, the train will stop at three stops rather than two along its route from Chennai Egmore to Madurai and vice versa. The stops include Tambaram, Tiruchchirapali, and Dindigul Junction.

The 497-kilometre journey taken by the Chennai Egmore-Madurai-Chennai Egmore Tejas Superfast Express takes six hours and fifteen minutes. The MS QLN Express and MS Guruvayur Express are the next quickest trains on the route after this one.

Time Taken To Cover The Distance And Train Schedule

Except for Thursday, the Chennai Egmore-Madurai-Chennai Egmore Tejas Superfast Express runs every day of the week. The train leaves Chennai Egmore at 6:00 am and arrives at its destination at 12:15 pm. The train departs Madurai Junction in the other direction at 3:30 pm and arrives in Chennai Egmore at 9:15 pm.

The train with the number 22671 arrives at Tambaram at 6:25 am and departs at 6:27 am On the way back, train number 22672 will arrive at 8:38 pm and stop for just two minutes.

Tambaram is a significant suburb in Chennai. As Tambaram is close to IT centres like Mahindra City, it will greatly assist IT workers who frequently commute between Madurai and Chennai. People who are merchants, have business and travel between the two cities will also profit from this stop.
