The Chennai-Tirunelveli Vande Bharat Express will be flagged off by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on August 6. The news comes four months after the electrification and doubling works of the Madurai-Tirunelveli section were completed.
The semi-high-speed train will begin its journey from Tirunelveli in the morning and, by afternoon, reach Chennai Egmore. For now, it is revealed that the train will be halting at Virudhunagar, Madurai, and Trichy stations.
This Vande Bharat Express will cover the distance of 650 km in just 8 hours. Currently, the Nellai Express takes nearly 10 hours, 40 minutes to cover the distance, while the Nagercoil Express and Kanyakumari Express cover the same distance in 11 hours.

Gearing Up For The Launch
During weekends and festival seasons, there is a considerable demand for tickets on the Chennai-Tirunelveli-Nagercoil stretch. Since several years ago, omni buses have been able to charge customers exorbitant fees thanks to this demand.
The festival traffic in this region is anticipated to drastically lessen with the inauguration of the Vande Bharat Express, which will assist travellers from the Trichy, Madurai, and Virudhunagar districts.
The Vande Bharat rake at Tirunelveli yard needs to be maintained, so on Monday, the Madurai railway division instructed its employees to finish all such necessary tasks.
Following the ones introduced on November 22 of last year between Chennai and Mysore and on April 8 between Chennai and Coimbatore, this will be the third Vande Bharat Express to be introduced in Tamil Nadu. (As per India TV news)
