Kal Penn whose original name is Kalpen Suresh Modi sent the Internet in a tizzy with his latest Instagram post. The actor shared a series of pictures from his visit to the Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah set at Film City in Mumbai. He dropped by to meet the cast and crew of the iconic Hindi sitcom running on Sony SAB.
TMKOC is the longest-running television series in India. It follows the lives of the residents living in the apartment complex called Gokuldham Society. Whether it’s Jethalal (played by Dilip Joshi) or Daya Ben (portrayed by Disha Vakani), the characters and their antics have become cult favourites often making their presence felt in the meme culture.
So, Kal Penn is no stranger to the huge popularity of the show. He posted pictures of his visit to the set and even posed with Dilip Joshi, the show’s producer Asit Kumarr Modi and actors Sunayana Fozdar, Ambika Ranjankar, Munmun Dutta and Shyam Pathak. Balwinder Singh Suri, Mandar Chandwadkar, Monaz Mevawalla, Tanmay Vekaria and Kiran Bhatt were also present. In his caption, he joked about looking for an apartment in Gokuldham Society with a few friends.

He thanked the cast and crew for showing him around and called them the “nicest”. Kal Penn informed his followers that TMKOC is one of the most-watched shows in the world. Over 40 million people tune into each episode. Also, it’s India’s longest-running scripted TV show with over 4300 episodes.

The show based on the late humourist Tarak Mehta’s Gujarati column Duniya Ne Undha Chashmah has a special place in the hearts of viewers. Premiered on July 28, 2008, on Sony SAB, it has been on air for 16 years. Even actor Richa Chadha called it the crossover she didn’t know she needed. Planet Parle stated, “This is epic”.
