What’s The F1 Academy?

If you haven’t heard of the F1 Academy yet, buckle up! This motorsport initiative, launched by the Formula One Group trains and supports female drivers at the Formula 4 level. Essentially, it’s a high-octane, all-women’s racing championship designed to help drivers climb the motorsport ladder.

The format? Every driver competes in identical cars: Tatuus F4-T421 chassis with Pirelli tyres. No fancy upgrades, no unfair advantages just raw talent going head-to-head on the track. It’s a spec series, meaning it levels the playing field, ensuring that only the most skilled drivers take the podium.

The idea of an all-women racing league isn’t new. Back in 2004, Formula Woman was established to give female racers a shot at the big leagues. Fast forward to November 18, 2022, and Formula One officially announced the launch of F1 Academy to provide female drivers with a direct pathway into higher-tier racing. The goal? To bridge the gap between karting and professional single-seater racing.

The first-ever season took off in 2023, and Spanish driver Marta García took home the championship.

Who’s Competing?

The competition is fierce, with five teams currently revving up for glory, ART Grand Prix, Campos Racing, Rodin Motorsport, MP Motorsport, and Prema Racing. And guess what? 2024 brings an exciting addition, Hitech Grand Prix joins the pack, taking the competition up a notch.

Jeddah will play host to this thrilling event from Friday, April 18, to Sunday, April 20 at the Jeddah Corniche Circuit. Whether you’re a lifelong racing fan or just love the idea of watching female drivers blaze past the competition, this is one event you won’t want to miss.

Why This Matters?

Motorsports have long been a male-dominated arena, but that’s changing, fast. By giving female drivers the resources, training, and exposure they need, the academy is paving the way for more diversity on the track.

So, Jeddah, are you ready to see women take the wheel and own the road? Because this April, the F1 Academy isn’t just making an appearance, it’s making a statement. Buckle up and watch them fly!
