The survey will be constituted of around 100 questions. These questions will range from time and duration spent on travel to the budget that citizens allot for travelling. The survey is called the National Household Travel Survey or NHTS.

According to an article recently published by India Today, the National Sample Survey apparatus will be utilised. Jaya Varma Sinha, who is the Railway Board Chairperson, has urged the Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation or the MoSPI, in a letter, for an early rollout.

This, as per Sinha, will benefit not just the Railways but all transport ministries. She also said that this practice takes place in most developed countries and that India, so far, does not have this data on such large a scale.
