Ryanair

International trips are exciting regardless of how many trips you’ve been on. It is all the more exciting when it’s your first. And what a cherry on top it is if you’re taking your first international trip with a loved one! A couple, Adam Robertson and Selina Bacon were similarly excited about their first international trip together. However, when they reached the airport, things took a turn for the worse. They blamed Ryanair for the fiasco.

Robertson, who is 34 years old, and Bacon, who is 32 years old, had a flight from Bournemouth in England to Mallorca in Spain. They booked a Ryanair ticket for the 23rd of July. However, when they reached the airport that day, they were shocked to find out that they weren’t allowed on the flight.

As it turns out, Bacon’s passport was issued on the 18th of July, 2013. According to the EU rules, a passenger’s documents shouldn’t be older than 10 years if they’re travelling anywhere to or from the European Union. Since the flight was booked for 23rd July, Bacon’s passport violated this rule.

The couple blamed the airline for it. They stated that after booking the ticket and entering their passport details, the airline should have emailed them to let them know of the rule. They said that they had conducted thorough research on their part but failed to come across this rule.

The Airline Responds

The couple stated that if the airline had warned them of the rule in advance, they would have remedied the situation. However, the airline failed to do so. The couple is now seeking a full refund of their tickets.

Robertson is a self-employed business owner and Selina is a dental nurse trainee. They spent £420 (₹44,050) on tickets and were excited for their very first international trip together.

An airline spokesperson said in a recently published article by Swindon Advertiser, that the couple were rightly denied entry as Bacon’s passport was older than 10 years.
