CT Review: At Latango In Delhi, Tiramisu Looks Like Caviar And Cocktails Read Like Love Letters Across Continents!

Delhi has no shortage of great restaurants, but every once in a while, a place opens that feels like it’s rewriting the dining experience. Latango, the new restaurant in the city, is exactly that kind of place. It’s not just about good food or pretty interiors. Every detail here, right from the design to the cocktails, comes together to create an experience that feels both effortless and extraordinary.

The Space That Draws You In

The moment you walk into Latango, the atmosphere sets the tone for what’s to come. The walls are made of raw concrete, which gives a cool, modern look. Above, the ceiling shines with copper tones that feel cosy and inviting. At the centre is a stunning glass bar that glows like a work of art. But what truly caught my attention was the open live kitchen, where you can watch the chefs work their magic. It’s interactive and almost theatrical, making you feel like you’re part of the whole process of bringing a dish to life.

The restaurant is the creation of Sahil Sambhi, the name behind popular spots like Japonico and Vietnom. With Latango, he’s introduced India’s first All-Day European Bar, and what makes it even more special is that the entire kitchen is led by a European team. The two chefs at the helm, Roberto Blondi and Joe Stanchi, have a wealth of experience between them. Their cooking brings classic European flavours to Delhi, presented with precision, care, and respect for tradition.

The Dishes I Loved At Latango

I started with a Spinach Salad dressed with French mustard and parmesan cheese. It was light but filling—a great way to wake up my taste buds. Next was the Burrata & Truffle Shokupan. The burrata tasted fresh and mild, and the truffle gave it a rich, earthy flavour. The shokupan bread was soft and perfectly cooked. This dish is a rare find in Delhi and definitely one to try.

Then came the Crab Tartare served with creamy avocado and little pops of red tobiko (fish eggs). It was fresh, tasty, and had a lovely texture. The Kappa Roll Takosu brought in unique flavours. For the main course, I tried the Rigatoni alla Norma, a classic Italian pasta with fried eggplant, tomato sauce, and fresh oregano. It was full of flavour and comforting.

And then came dessert: the Latango Tiramisu. Let me just say, this isn’t your regular tiramisu. It comes served in a caviar tin, and when you open it, the top looks like it’s filled with caviar. But as soon as you take a bite, you discover that the “caviar” is actually tiny coffee jelly pearls that add a subtle texture to the creamy mascarpone and airy layers of sponge beneath. The balance of flavours, the slight bitterness of the coffee, and the sweetness of the cream were so perfect that I would go back to Latango just for this dessert.

The Cocktail Experience

The bar at Latango is there to serve more than just drinks; it’s there to tell stories. Their cocktail menu, called “Liquid Letters from Europe,” is an experience in itself. Designed in collaboration with Vikram Achanta and the Tulleeho team and crafted by Italian mixologists Giovanni and Terry, each cocktail is inspired by a letter from one artist to another, blending flavours and creativity in unexpected ways.

  • Cubist Negroni: A letter from Pablo Picasso to Amrita Shergill

Inspired by a letter from Pablo Picasso to Amrita Shergill, this is a bold twist on the classic Negroni, made with tequila, Italian Amaro, and Aperol. It even comes with a fun Campari pop on the side.

  • Dali Bloom: A letter from Salvador Dali to Tyeb Mehta

Dreamy and floral, this one uses tequila with butterfly pea flower tea and grapefruit. It’s as pretty as it is refreshing.

  • Nudist Picante: A letter from Donald Judd to Raza Abidi

A spiced tequila cocktail with apple, kaffir lime, and a gentle kick of heat. This one stood out for me; it’s possibly one of the best Picantes I’ve tried in Delhi.

  • Form & Function: A letter from Ludwig Mies van der Rohe to M.F. Hussain

Vodka meets French orange liqueur, Coorg estate coffee, and spice in this beautiful cocktail topped with a Parmesan chip. It’s unexpected and so good!

What makes Latango truly special is how every part of the experience is connected. Whether you’re planning a long brunch, an evening with friends, or even a solo indulgence, Naarma is the kind of place that leaves you thinking about it long after you’ve left, especially that tiramisu and the Nudist Picante!
