The Department of Municipalities and Transport just unveiled news that turned the city a little greener and happier. Abu Dhabi’s Al Shamkhah area has opened 16 brand-new parks. This marks another milestone step towards better everyday living. These parks are designed for real morning walks, evening playtime, and so much more. This move supports the wider goal of building people-first neighbourhoods across the capital.

These are not empty lawns with a bench and a promise. The new parks feature expansive green areas, eight fitness zones, 25 sports fields, and 26 dedicated play areas for children. Then there are walking tracks and shaded seating, that allots spaces to welcome all age groups, as mentioned in a report by Gulf Today. Kids and Adults both get their dedicated spaces to burn energy or rest. Everything across these parks is balanced out perfectly.
The focus of launching 16 parks in the already green Abu Dhabi is to encourage active habits without forcing them.
Designed For Community, Not Just Convenience
What stands out is how usable these parks feel. Everything comes fully serviced and accessible. Connecting paths, safe play areas and Fitness spots sit where people actually pass by. These parks also help stitch communities together. That social side matters in the Emirate.
Part Of A Bigger Plan For Abu Dhabi
Earlier this year, the department opened new parks in areas like Al Falah and Mohammed Bin Zayed City. The idea behind this recent launch is similar. All these parks are created to integrate residential zones with health, leisure, and quality of life.
More parks mean fewer crowded spaces and more local options within walking distance.

Why This Matters More Than It Sounds
Parks lower stress, support fitness, and provide kids a safe place to play outdoors. Over time, they shape healthier habits without the rules and force.
For Al Shamkhah residents, these 16 parks turn free time into a better time, all for free.
