5 Tips To Keep In Mind For Your First Garba Event This Navratri
Here’s are some tips you should keep in mind if you’re attending your first-ever garba or dandiya event this Navratri.
1. Learn a few basic steps
At Navratri events across India, you’ll see people dancing in traditional style–Dandiya Raas or Mandli Garba. Dandiya Raas can feel a bit tricky for first-timers, but you can start with simple steps. For traditional and mandli garba performed in a circle, just watch the hand and foot movements of the person in front of you. In just a few minutes, you’ll be able to catch the rhythm and join in confidently.
2. Stay hydrated
The majority of garba events are organised in open grounds. Dancing for long hours can make you sweaty and thirsty quickly. It’s always a good idea to carry water or juice to stay energised throughout the night. Not drinking enough water can make you lose your energy and feel exhausted. If you are someone who can’t stand the heat, we suggest looking for indoor events.
3. Carry a handbag
For men, it’s easy to keep wallets and mobile phones in their pockets, whereas women in a chaniya choli often struggle to keep their phones safe. Carrying the phone in hand while doing garba can be stressful and uncomfortable, so to keep it secure, always carry a sling bag. You can also keep a handkerchief with you to wipe the sweat off your face.
4. Tie up your hair
Another crucial tip to keep in mind if you’re heading for a garba and dandiya event is to make sure to tie your hair neatly or carry a scrunchie, hair tie, or claw clip. Dancing for long hours can make your hair sweaty and difficult to keep in place. Also, the open hair may constantly fall on your face, making it uncomfortable to enjoy garba freely.
5. Avoid high heels
If you want to enjoy dancing to traditional tunes to the fullest, don’t strain your feet with high heels. Wear something comfortable like jootis, sandals, or chappals so you can dance easily. To be even more comfortable, you can remove them and keep them at the centre while dancing; this way, you may be stress-free about losing them.
