A Hyderabad man’s recent post on social media about hosting a ‘team lunch‘ for his driver and house help has sparked a massive online discussion about India’s class system. The man took to his social media to share how difficult it was to convince his staff to break years of social norms and sit at his dining table for a simple meal of keema paratha. The post shared by a man named Naresh took to his X account to share the story about his monthly team lunch with his driver and house help. Taking to his X, he said, “Once in a couple of months, I have a ‘team lunch’ with my staff, which is my driver and my maid.” He further revealed how they both were so hesitant to sit together. “Initially, they were so reluctant to sit at the dining table because of years of conditioning! This class system in India has to go. For heaven’s sake, this is 2026. PS: a simple meal of Keema paratha.”

How Did Social Media React To It?
As soon as the post went viral, it received mixed reactions from people all across India. While some appreciated his sweet gesture, others started a debate about the class system.
One user wrote, “This sort of maids having lunch with masters is avoided not only in India but across the world. The class system is much higher in the Western world. But it’s camouflaged. Anyway, you are doing good.”
Another wrote, “I tried the same behaviour, but the conditioning is so deep they start taking advantage of the situations and consider you weak”. Another said, “absolutely needed,had the same experience when every sat our office cleaner would take his tea sit down in kitchen, i insisted that he use the same plates/food,and eat with me on the dining table, cannot accept this dichotomy of letting him sit down and eat in separate food/plate”.
