Getting a new number plate usually means paperwork, waiting around and at least one slightly annoying service centre visit. But in Fujairah, things just got a lot quicker. Drivers can now collect freshly printed number plates in under three minutes through a new AI-powered system launched by Fujairah Police. The fully automated setup is running from a self-service kiosk placed at an Emirates petrol station near Fujairah Mall. It works 24 hours a day, too, so people are not tied to office timings anymore. Late-night errand? Apparently, even that now includes number plates.

The process begins before anyone reaches the kiosk. Motorists first submit their request through the Fujairah Police website or mobile app. Once the application gets approved, users receive a QR code linked to their order.
After that, the actual pickup part seems pretty straightforward.
People scan the QR code at the machine, complete facial recognition for identity checks, choose their preferred plate style and then wait while the system prints the plate right there on-site.
That’s it. No counters, no ticket machines, and no long queue slowly moving nowhere.
The Kiosk Is Sitting Somewhere People Already Visit
For many drivers, the interesting part is probably the location itself. Authorities placed the machine at a petrol station instead of a government office. Which honestly makes sense because people already stop there during daily routines.
Officials say the whole idea is to bring vehicle services closer to places residents naturally pass through instead of making them travel specifically for admin tasks.
Also, the kiosk offers both small and large plate formats. Drivers can pick the design they need while keeping Fujairah’s regular branding style.
It’s Supposed To Save Time More Than Anything
The system has been described as the first fully automated AI-based number plate production service in the Middle East. But beyond the technology talk, this really comes down to convenience.
A lot of UAE government services have been moving towards quicker digital systems lately. But this one feels especially practical because it removes multiple steps people usually expect with vehicle paperwork.
That said, some drivers will probably still want traditional service centres, especially if they are not comfortable using facial recognition or automated kiosks yet. But for others, getting plates printed in minutes while stopping for fuel probably sounds ideal.
And honestly, three minutes is faster than most coffee orders these days.
