Dubai’s food scene is nothing short of legendary, and at Curly Tales Middle East, we’re always hungry for the best bites around town. But this time, we took our culinary curiosity to the next level by (dragging), ahem, inviting one of Dubai’s most famous food influencers, Just Food Dubai a.k.a. Alex Augusti, to embark on a street food adventure in Al Karama. Alex, the British foodie sensation, is known for capturing mouth-watering meals that make you want to lick your screen. But could his UK-born taste buds handle the full-throttle spice, crunch, and sweetness of Indian street food? Well, buckle up, this was one flavourful rollercoaster ride!
Curly Tales ME Invited Alex Augusti On An Indian Street Food Expedition In Dubai!
Before diving into the feast, our host Bianca Saurastri ensured Alex embraced the full Indian experience. Step one? Dressing the part. Enter: A traditional Indian kurta, which Alex rocked like a true desi! With the influencer’s outfit sorted, it was time to dig in.
First stop: A Gujarati breakfast spread of Fafda, Jalebi, Dhokla, Patra, and Thepla. Between the crunch, the spice, and the sugar rush, Alex had his first ‘mind-blown’ moment. Washing it all down with a tall glass of chaas (buttermilk) and finishing with syrupy jalebis, he was off to a strong start. And, fun fact: This man grew up in the British countryside and had barely seen a skyscraper before visiting Dubai! Safe to say, his world has expanded – and so has his spice tolerance!

Battle Of The Pani Puri & The Tale Of An Unexpected Champion
What’s an Indian street food tour without a proper pani puri showdown? The challenge was simple. Who can handle the most spicy, tangy, water-filled puris? Bianca, our homegrown expert, took on the confident Brit. But plot twist, Alex didn’t just handle the heat, he thrived in it! While Bianca waved the white flag, Alex barely blinked. A true underdog victory!
With the spice war over, it was time to sample India’s street food royalty: Bhel Puri, Dahi Puri, and the ever-iconic Pav Bhaji. The verdict? Alex was officially hooked. The buttery, spicy, tangy flavours had him nodding in approval.
Vada Pav & Sitaphal Cream – The Grand Finale!
No Indian street food tour is complete without Mumbai’s favourite grab-and-go snack, Vada Pav! Crispy vada, soft pav, and a fiery green chilli, a simple yet powerful combo. Once again, Alex stunned us by chomping down the chilli like a pro.
To balance the spice, we wrapped things up with a sweet treat at Mara-Mari Juice Centre. Enter: Sitaphal cream, a dessert that left Alex utterly speechless (and blissfully sugar-high). With mango cream, falooda, and fresh juices in the mix, this food journey ended on the sweetest note possible.
A Day of Spice, Surprises & Serious Food Love
What started as a casual food crawl turned into an epic cross-cultural feast! Alex Augusti didn’t just embrace Dubai’s Indian street food, he owned it. From unexpected spice tolerance to falling head over heels for Sitaphal cream, it was a day of endless surprises and delicious discoveries for Just Food DXB.
So, if you’re in Dubai and craving an authentic Indian street food experience, don’t walk, run to Al Karama! Just be warned, you might leave with a full belly and a newfound obsession. And who knows? Maybe you’ll even beat Alex in a pani puri showdown (but we doubt it!).
