Mumbai’s suburban commuters have reason to cheer as the first phase of Mumbai Metro Line 9, connecting Dahisar East to Kashigaon, is set to commence operations by the end of this year. This 4.5-kilometre stretch, featuring four stations, promises to significantly ease travel in the city’s northern suburbs.

The Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) has been diligently working on expanding the city’s metro network to alleviate congestion and provide efficient public transport options. Metro Line 9, an extension of the existing Line 7 (Gundavali to Dahisar East), will eventually connect Mira Road and Bhayandar, enhancing interconnectivity between the Western Express Highway, Western Railway, and other metro lines.

The complete Metro Line 9 project spans 13.581 kilometres, with 11.386 km elevated and 2.195 km underground, encompassing ten stations. The entire corridor is slated for completion by December 2025, further extending connectivity to areas like Mira-Bhayandar and providing interchange facilities at stations such as Miragaon.
