Darjeeling Woman Faces Molestation Mid-Flight, SpiceJet Crew Discourages Complaint

In a disturbing incident, a 26-year-old woman from Darjeeling alleged that she was molested by a fellow passenger mid-flight. The incident occurred on a SpiceJet flight, SG 592, on January 31, while the victim, a law school student in Kolkata, was en route to her destination with relatives. The shocking aspect of this case is that both the airline crew on board and Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) personnel at Bagdogra reportedly discouraged the woman from filing a complaint.

The accused individual even admitted to inappropriately touching her during the flight. The airline crew and CISF personnel allegedly suggested that without concrete evidence, it would be a case of her word against his, and they encouraged her to accept his apology.

According to Times Now, the woman is currently preparing for the civil service examination. Initially, she occupied an aisle seat but later shifted to an adjacent row as only one of the three seats was occupied. The accused, a fifth-year law school student, moved to the middle seat next to her. Subsequently, the victim felt uncomfortable as the accused’s actions escalated from poking her arm to attempting to touch her thigh during the meal service.

The woman raised an alarm, and an air hostess intervened. The accused apologised, but the victim, angered by the incident, slapped him. The cabin crew then moved the accused to another row, but the victim insisted on taking further action.

Upon landing at Bagdogra, both the woman and the accused were taken aside by SpiceJet security staff and CISF officials. However, instead of ensuring the victim’s safety, she alleged that they advised her to let the accused go. As per the Times Now reports, they emphasised that he was a student and filing a complaint would only exacerbate the situation. Feeling let down, the woman expressed her frustration at the youth being allowed to leave without facing consequences. A spokesperson for SpiceJet mentioned that upon arrival at Bagdogra, both individuals were assisted by security staff to CISF officials.

The accused apologised, and the woman chose not to file a complaint, hindering any further probe by SpiceJet.
