Actor Priyanka Chopra is in the Capital shooting for her movie White Tiger with co-star Rajkumar Rao. However, she decided to take out some time to indulge in Delhi’s most iconic dessert: Daulat Ki Chaat!
Don’t get excited just yet! No, she did not come all the way to Chandni Chowk dressed in a hoodie and wearing sunglasses so that no one could recognise her. She visited the best Indian restaurant in the country: Indian Accent, which does their own representation of the delicious dessert.
Surprised to see the “cash in her dessert”, Priyanka Chopra uploaded a picture on her Instagram page which was served to her at the restaurant. Chef Manish Mehrotra, the man behind the menu of Indian Accent, that is rated among top 50 in the world, has given his own touch to the simple street dish. Daulat ki Chaat, here, is served with ₹500 notes, rose petal chikki and roasted almonds. Cash to decorate dessert, now that’s more like it.
What makes it so special?
Daulat ki Chaat can only be made and savoured in cold temperatures. That’s one of the reasons why it is available mostly during winters because it spoils easily. Thick and creamy milk is churned and the foam is then collected and put in a separate bowl. Powdered sugar is then add to it along with some saffron-infused milk, to give it a rich flavour and texture. With slight increase in temperature, the dish loses its texture and flavour and hence its essence!

What’s in the name?
Daulat, meaning wealth, is something which doesn’t last very long, and chaat, which translates to licking, is often associated with deliciousness. Because the dish melts away quite easily and has rich ingredients like kesar (saffron), it was given the name Daulat Ki Chaat.

On the streets of Chandni Chowk, you will be able to find it before 8AM. Many food walks that are organised during winters, offer to start their day early, just to make sure that people are able to try this dish which melts in your mouth, quite literally.
