Dead Baby Kangaroo & 230 Live Reptiles Found In Man’s Suitcase At Bengaluru Airport; Arrested

It’s not the first time, passengers in an airport were caught smuggling endangered animals and reptiles in their suitcases and caught by customs at an airport. In yet another horrific incident, an AirAsia passenger was caught with a dead baby kangaroo and 230 live reptiles in his bag at Bengaluru Airport. Read on to know more about this horrific incident.

AirAsia Passenger Caught Smuggling Reptiles & Dead Baby Kangaroo At Bengaluru Airport

According to a report by Times Of India, an AirAsia passenger was caught with a suitcase filled with 230 live reptiles and a dead baby kangaroo. This incident came to light when the 22-year-old man’s luggage was examined by customs on Monday night at Bengaluru’s Kempegowda International Airport. The man hailing from Ramnad in Tamil Nadu had just landed in Bengaluru from Bangkok on an AirAsia flight at 10.35 pm.

The customs officials at Bengaluru airport decided to question him and examine his luggage after they found him behaving suspiciously. On opening his suitcase, they were shocked to find plastic boxes filled with lizards, tortoises, iguanas, small crocodiles, pythons and even four monocled cobras.  In a plastic bag, they discovered a baby kangaroo or joey which died of suffocation.

Police Arrest The Man & Carry Out Investigations

In an interview with Times Of India, an investigative officer stated that one of the containers had something that resembled a small dog. When they opened it they were shocked to see a joey which was being smuggled. Unfortunately, the animal died of asphyxiation in the suitcase. The police arrested the wildlife smuggler at Bengaluru Airport and booked him under Section 104 of the Customs Act. The man claims he was unaware of the contents of the suitcase.

Meanwhile, the 230 live reptiles found in his bag have been rescued and sent back to Thailand. The police are carrying out investigations to find out the person’s Bengaluru links including the person, the arrested was going to hand over the smuggled animals.
