You all must have watched movies where gangs smuggle gold without getting caught. In a real-life incident, a gold smuggling racket was successfully busted by the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) at Mumbai airport. They have arrested a gang of 18 Sudanese women with gold worth ₹10.16 crore. Along with these 18 women, they have also successfully held one Indian woman, who apparently coordinated their movements.
Women Smuggling Gold Caught At Mumbai Airport
The smuggled gold was in complete paste form, weighing about 16.36 kg. The smugglers were arrested at Mumbai’s Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport. The group of 18 Sudanese women, who were arrested for smuggling gold, flew down to India. They were travelling from the United Arab Emirates (UAE) on Wednesday.
The Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) informed that they also recovered foreign currency worth ₹16 lakhs, Indian notes worth ₹88 lakhs, and 1.42 kg of gold worth ₹84 lakhs.
A team of DRI officers mounted surveillance at the Mumbai airport based on specific intelligence. It stated that a group is going to fly to India from the UAE with gold in paste form.

A Thorough Examination Help Them Catch Hold Of Smugglers
A team from the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) detained three planes full of passengers who were thought to be members of this syndicate. A thorough examination helped find 16.36 kg of gold in the form of paste, bits, and jewellery.
According to DRI officials, it was quite challenging to find the majority of the seized gold because it was found hidden in the bodies of these 18 Sudanese women. More research is being done to identify every member of the gang responsible for the country’s illegal gold imports in their entirety. (As per Hindustan Times)
