After launching 400 electric buses in May, Delhi’s CM Rekha Gupta adds new 401 buses to the commute plan on the roads of Delhi, as an ongoing part of an initiative to make the city pollution-free. They will soon launch these new buses on the roads and plan to add 1000 more by the end of the year. The government has added these 401 nine-metre electric buses under the “Delhi Electric Vehicle Initiative” (DEVI) as per the report published in DNP India. “DEVI” is an ongoing programme in the city to encourage a greener transport system and to curb increasing pollution.
Addressing the media, Delhi Transport Minister Pankaj Kumar Singh said that Delhi will launch more buses to support the people of Delhi and improve the city’s transport system. Moreover, he also mentioned that the number of EV buses in Delhi will continue to increase in the coming months. As per DNP India, these new electric buses will launch between June 10 to 15, 2025.

New Electric Buses In Delhi Equipped With Commuter-Friendly Features
As per DNP India, these new EV buses launched by Delhi CM Rekha Gupta under “DEVI” to curb pollution will also offer advanced features. These buses would include CCTV cameras, panic buttons, tracking systems and motorised ramps for passengers with disabilities. Moreover, these buses will also have retractable steps at low heights to facilitate easy boarding. The best part of these buses is that they will be completely free for women commuters.
Current Public Transport System In Delhi
Talking about the current transportation system in Delhi, DNP India reported that the city currently has 1895 buses, of which 1800 buses are under the Delhi Transport Corporation (DTC) and 400 buses are under the Delhi Integrated Multi-Modal Transit System (DIMTS). In her recent budget speech, Delhi CM Rekha Gupta revealed her plans to further improve the transportation on the roads, with the support of the central government. She says, “Around 5,500 buses will be maintained by the end of this year, and 11,000 buses will be on the roads by 2026. Bus routes will also be reevaluated to address loopholes in the system.”

The Delhi Government added 400 buses under this scheme in May before adding 401 new electric buses in June. The government plans to add more electric buses by the end of 2025 and 2026. This new plan might really help to give us some relief from pollution. However, we will have to wait and see.
