The Public Works Department (PWD) has ordered an inspection of over 100 flyovers, bridges, and underpasses across Delhi for repair and maintenance works. They have ordered their maintenance unit to carry out inspections for any structural defects and repair works at these massive projects. They will also be carrying out routine maintenance work after these inspections.
PWD To Inspect Over 100 Flyovers, Bridges & Underpasses In Delhi
The Public Works Department (PWD) has ordered its officials to begin inspection for any structural defect of over 100 flyovers, bridges, and underpasses for their routine repair in Delhi. PWD’s maintenance wing will be taking up the task of inspection and further maintenance of these structures. There are several existing as well as newly completed projects under this inspection.
As per the statement released by PWD, “The maintenance unit should continue to inspect the flyovers/underpasses/bridges in general and intimate any defect/deficiency in the structure to the flyover unit.”
For the repair and maintenance work, PWD usually replaces the expansion joint and bearings of the flyovers. This is done to strengthen any elevated road in the flyover. Furthermore, the agency has also reassured the public that they will be completing the maintenance work in the stipulated time for public convenience.

Routine Maintenance Work In Cards For Many Of These Flyovers
For many of these flyovers and bridges, PWD will be carrying out routine maintenance work. This usually includes works like painting, desilting, re-carpeting, pothole repair, road marking, signage, and minor repairs. All these repair works are carried out by PWD’s in-house maintenance unit.
