The Delhi-Meerut Regional Rapid Transit System or RRTS marked a significant milestone as Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated a crucial section connecting Sahibabad in Uttar Pradesh to New Ashok Nagar in Delhi. The Prime Minister christened the occasion by travelling aboard a Namo Bharat RRTS train, engaging with passengers and youngsters during the journey. Here are all of the other important details that you would need to know about this newly inaugurated project.
Delhi To Meerut In Just 40 Minutes Via Namo Bharat RRTS
According to an article that was recently published by the Hindustan Times or HT, the newly operational section stretches across 13 kilometres. It includes an underground section that stretches across six kilometres. This stretch features the strategic Anand Vihar station.
The station will be a major interchange hub linking the Delhi Metro’s Blue and Pink Lines, alongside existing railway and bus terminals. This expansion represents the first underground operations of Namo Bharat trains within Delhi’s boundaries.
The complete corridor, stretching from New Ashok Nagar to Meerut South, has a total length of 55 kilometres. It now serves passengers through 11 stations. Regular services commenced at 5 PM, with trains running at an interval of 15 minutes.
PM Modi Inaugurates The New Infrastructure Project
Passengers travelling the full route are charged ₹150 for standard coaches and ₹225 for premium carriages. This development follows the earlier launch of the priority section between Sahibabad and Duhai Depot in October 2023. This stretch was 17 kilometres long.
The entire Namo Bharat corridor spans 82 kilometres from Sarai Kale Khan in New Delhi to Modipuram in Meerut. It encompasses 16 Namo Bharat stations and nine dedicated Meerut Metro stations.
This comprehensive network has revolutionised regional connectivity, reducing travel time between New Ashok Nagar and Meerut South to under 40 minutes — a remarkable reduction by two-thirds of the previous duration.
