Delhi is all set to replace the existing pink ticket system for free bus rides on Delhi Transport Corporation buses with new ‘pink cards’. This change will mean that only women residents of Delhi will get free and unlimited bus rides in the city soon. Scroll on to know all about this new system.
Pink Cards For Free Bus Travel For Women In Delhi
According to NDTV, only women and transgender residents of Delhi will soon be eligible for the free and unlimited bus rides initiative run by the Delhi government. Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta announced that the current ticketing system will be replaced soon with pink cards. This move follows scrutiny of the current scheme, which has faced allegations of misuse and irregularities.
Earlier, free bus rides on the Delhi Transport Corporation and cluster buses were available for all women, irrespective of which state they belonged to, in Delhi. This change will mark a major shift and make it exclusive for the residents of the city. Addressing the media, the CM said, “Very soon, we will replace the pink ticket with a Pink Pass for free bus travel for women in Delhi. This benefit will be limited to Delhi residents only.”
Pink Tickets To Be Replaced
Now, how will this new pink card for bus travel work in Delhi? Unlike the existing pink ticket system, eligible candidates in the city will have to apply for this new card. As per NDTV’s report, they will have to submit Aadhaar, PAN, proof of residence, a passport-size photograph, and complete KYC documentation to apply for this new system.
Delhi’s Transport Minister Pankaj Singh has confirmed that the authorities are preparing for the rollout of this new system as well. They are now finalising the digital and administrative framework for the new system. Pink tickets were introduced in Delhi in 2019. They were used widely and allowed lakhs of women to travel for free daily.
